With advances in algorithms and increasing computational power, Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) methods have become a powerful tool for describing a variety of quantum fluids and a viable alternative for high-precision calculations of the electronic structure of many atoms, molecules and solids.
Here the Centro Ricerche e Studi Enrico Fermi will host a conference on October 21 and 22 focused precisely on recent developments in Quantum Monte Carlo methods. The two meetings have been organized by Fabio Affinito (CINECA), Giovanni Bachelet (Sapienza University of Rome), Lilia Boeri (Sapienza University of Rome), David Ceperley (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Irene Iacuitto (CNR), Gaetano Senatore (University of Trieste).
The workshop is also meant to be a celebration of the 60th birthday of Saverio Moroni, a solid condensed matter theorist who made fundamental contributions to quantum Monte Carlo methods, their application to a large number of quantum fluids and chemical systems, and their diffusion in Europe.
