From November 17 to 19, 2021 eleven schools of the Extreme Energy Events (EEE) Project have returned with enthusiasm to meet in presence at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice, the historical site of the project meetings. The occasion was the workshop “1st Meeting of the EEE Project after COVID shutdown” fruit of the collaboration between CREF and INFN, which brought together 50 students and teachers in presence and more than 250 participants remotely.
The EEE Project is engaging at the forefront of the ecological transition, and for this reason the heart of the meeting was the Masterclass: “Ecogas for EEE stations – Data analysis on ecological mixtures”. The students of the Project had the opportunity to analyze the data acquired in recent months from some telescopes of the EEE network, in which the standard gas mixture has been replaced by different mixtures with low Global Warming Power (GWP). The students were able to discuss the results of the tests of the new mixtures, very promising in terms of performance and ecological sustainability, also making their original contribution: the best works were awarded at the end of the workshop.
The conference program (https://agenda.centrofermi.it/event/197/timetable/#20211117) also included three seminars dedicated to coincidences between distant detectors, PolarquEEEst mission and Physics applied to the archaeological field, a contribution that prepared students for the visit to the Museo Lilibeo of Marsala, which took place during the morning of the second day of the meeting.
The great success of the initiative represents a first step for the restart of the EEE Project activities.
